Since the preservation of industrial railroads is important to the economic vitality of the Mahoning Valley, MVEDC has preserved two important rail lines. First, the Youngstown and Austintown Railroad, formerly owned by Conrail, was purchased in 1985 and has continuously served industries in west Youngstown and Austintown. Second, the Warren and Trumbull Railroads, formerly owned by CSXT and Conrail, were purchased in 1995. Both railroads are operated by the Ohio Central Railroad System, a part of Genesee and Wyoming Company.
